Housebreaking Crate Training

by Cherisse
(Alabama)

We have a 9 week old red tri color Mini named ROJO. He is doing well with the housebreaking. What is the longest he should be able to hold his pee when in his crate at this age? I realize every puppy is different.

Thank You

Hi,
Yes, every puppy is different..I would not allow him to hold it more than 8 hours. Your puppy
is still very small and needs a lot of frequent potty breaks in order for your pup not to get a urinary track infection.
Good luck and keep up the training.

Potty training

For me and my pup which is now 10wks old. The first week there were a lot of accidents in the house. The second week we had him I watched him closely and took him out every 2hrs and as soon as he ate took him out in 15 min. This seem to work out well. There is occasional accident but better than from the beginning. He now goes towards the front door and waits for us to open it. It's all about patience.
