How Long Until Your Australian Shepherd Was Active After Her Spay?

My 7-month-old Aussie is due to be spayed later this month. The vet suggests limiting physical activity for 2 weeks after.

How did your Aussie behave after her spay? How long until she was ready to go on a long walk or play frisbee? Would she be able to do an obedience training class a week later that works on stays and loose leash walking; not agility or anything like that.

Heal time

I would probably hold off on training. Although it’s not too physical but there will be other dogs and that is a major surgery. It took our Aussie to start feeling better after a week. We still tried to not let her play with our other Aussie that was tough.

Major Surgery
by: Sue

We were able to keep our Aussie to limited activity for about 6 days. She didn't feel like she could run as fast or get around as fast with the cone on, so if you can keep that on it helps to slow them down a little. My dog's surgery was actually just two weeks ago. It is hard to limit their activity. My dog wanted to play all the time so we got her a cheese bone from the local pet store. Ask for one that is very heavy duty. It was a lifesaver because she loves to chew it and we could get a few days out of one bone. She usually bites right through toys, etc. It kept her occupied and in one place for long periods of time. A bone marrow bone filled with peanut butter helps too. Takes a bit to lick the whole inside clean, kongs are good too. Keep your dog distracted!
