Keegan

by Bonita Tipton
(Hamilton, Missouri, USA)

My beautiful dog is Keegan. He is a blue merle Australian Shepherd. My daughter brought him home many years ago. So when she went to college I got him. He is a great goat chasing dog. Even though he is blind and has been now for three years. One winter day we had guest over so I put him outside in a fenced area to not bother us.

About an hour goes by and my husband said "Where is Keegan". I said outside and went to get him and he was gone. That was the worst day of my life to think I had lost him. So we jumped into cars and started searching for him since we live in the country I didn't think he could go that far because he had never done that before. But I think he heard our neighbors animals and thought he had to wrestle them up.

We didn't find him the first night so I called all the radio stations to ask them to post it on their shows through out the day, called all the vets to ask if they had a dog like Keegan they all said no. Everyday we searched for hem to never find him. Then one Sunday a man called to say he had found Keegan.

Keegan had gotten 3 miles away and close to the highway, the man said he knew he was taken care and not a stray on well he was kept. We drove right over to his house and got Keegan. When Keegan stepped out of the house he came right to me and I was overjoyed.

When I got Keegan home I looked him over he had bloody paws and a little thinner but that's it. So now when I let him out I stay with him even when its snowing and below freezing because I never want to lose him again.
