Mini Aussie Flea And Tick Advice?

by tprii
(Orlando, FL)

My 2 year-old Toy Australian Shepherd. He has been on Heartgaurd Plus since April 2016. He was on Seresto Flea collar as well up until last January '17.

Jan '17 at the dog park he out of the blue fell over, went unconscious, stopped breathing. His tongue went grey and was limp. This lasted about 15 minutes while we rushed him to the vet. He became alert but unable to stand, salivating.

All tests done came back negative. Was told it appeared to have been neurological problems. Couldn't walk well and head tilted to the right for about a week after. Unsure what happened. No issues since.

Should I discontinue Heartgaurd treatment due to a possible MDR1 gene mutation? What flea and tick prevention would be safe?

Use a flea comb every day.

Seresto

I use Seresto collars on both my Aussie mini and Doberman to great results.
They last 8 months or more and are pretty nontoxic to vertebrate creatures.
