My 2-Year-Old Male Australian Shepherd Has Stopped Eating

by Wayne Byrum
(Charleston, SC)

My little guy has quit eating. He was never a big eater and as dogs go, he is wrapped really tight. He gets tons of love and affection and exercise. We walk daily and he and my two Shelties chase squirrels all day long.

Initially, I thought he was getting into my cat's litter box which all three of my dogs are drawn to. He is picking at food. He will eat pieces of my p-nut butter sandwich or cheese toast, but if I dice them up and put them in his kennel he won't touch them.

He was extremely difficult to house train as well.

Any tips, hints, or suggestions?

Yes, he has been to the vet for a physical exam, blood work, and a fecal exam and is in perfect condition.

Not eating
by: Dianne K

I wonder if maybe a topper for his food might work. Our Festus is not normally a picky eater, but he really slowed down on eating meals, which for him was odd.

I've been giving him chicken with his dinner at noon, along with some coconut oil to help keep his teeth clean.

Maybe he's getting an upset tummy? Lamb and oatmeal kibble from Nutro has worked well for us in the past with my Sheltie, Dun, who looked just like your pup on the left of the picture.

Festus is currently on the Nutro Ultra for Seniors, but they have an Adult as well.

I hope this helps.
