My Australian Shepherd Has Panic Attacks

Our Aussie has what the vet calls panic attacks. There is no pattern to how they occur. Once she starts the attack she trembles and wants to be held, but you can't sit. You must stand holding her and for whatever reason, she wants to be held in our master bathroom only.

The panic attacks can last upwards of an hour. The vet gave us meds but they just knock her out.

Does anyone else experience this?

You are not alone. In fact, I found your inquiry whilst googling Australian Shepherds and panic attacks as my anxiety-prone Aussie woke up at 2 a.m. from a sound sleep panting and trying to climb on top of me. She bumps we with her snout over and over and nothing but time calms her. I’ve tried every medication out there and none help. She has cost us so much in home and fence repairs she should be Lowe’s official mascot. I feel terribly for her and I feel panicked every time I leave home. She has to be tethered in the yard where she can’t reach the fence or back door. I play music and set the Alexa where I can do frequent drop-ins to make sure she’s still secure. It’s life prohibitive for both of us and I’d give anything (including my sleep and sanity) to make her better. Going to give a daily regimen of CBD oil a try.
