My Dog Won't Listen To Me And I Must Get Control Of Him

by Lisa
(California)

My male Aussie is 1-1/2. He is an alpha male and when around other dogs he wants to be the leader. He also wants to be the leader - or shall I say "boss" of selective humans too.

Example: Today I took him to the dog park. There was only one man and his dog there. Our dogs had a good time running around together for about an hour. Then suddenly, my dog started barking at the man as if the man did something my dog didn't like. I wished I had been paying more attention because I don't know what happened.

Problem is my dog DOES NOT back off when I tell him to. I've tried and tried to get him to stop a behavior when I tell him to, but he doesn't listen and will keep right on doing what he's doing.

Maybe I am not strict enough. He is very head strong and the most intelligent and alert dog I've ever had. But tough to get him to obey when I really mean it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this behavior?

Same issues here
by: Nikki

Hello,

Hoping to learn more. We have the same issues with our pup. He bosses the other dogs around and won't let the cats be. Today, he chased down the kitten and would not listen to our commands to stop. Now the poor kitten is traumatized.

Please, any help is appreciated!
