Never-Ending Lick Granuloma

by Sarah
(Baltimore)

I am the proud mother of an Aussie rescue in Baltimore, Maryland. We rescued him from a local shelter back in 2014 and think he is about 4-6 years old.

Just last May he started to lick at his back right leg after a grooming session and immediately took him to the vet who prescribed some sort of antibiotic. We are now one year later and still cannot seem to fix this lick granuloma.

We have used sprays, creams, hot sauce, and have recently implemented more exercise into our dog's routine, but have been putting him in a cone when we are not able to supervise him. He has been in and out of the cone for over one year, but whenever we take it off, he licks the sore back to raw.

If you have any tips or recommendations, I would very much appreciate it. Anything helps!

Thank you for your time.

Licking

We have a 5 yr old female Aussie who have is doing the same thing to a small area on the top of one of her front paws. This has been ongoing for the past 3 mo this and we are trying to resolve similarly - collar, antibiotic creams, Apple bitter, etc. definitely interested to hear how others have successfully treated.

Veterinarian told us these types of things can turn into a habit so for us to focus on addressing early on.
