Nipping

by Judi
(Melbourne, Australia)

My eighteen month old Aussie male nips and barks at other dogs in the park. He doesn't bark at home and he does not obey "come" or "no" and runs around in circles and chases and nips some other dogs. He comes when called if no other dogs are around. It is embarrassing and we have to leave the park in disgrace! Help!

I am having the same problem with our pup. I just recently got a female Australian Shepherd. She is 3 1/2 months old. The nipping and biting on our clothes, shoe laces, and hands is also driving me crazy. We will walk away and ignore her when this happens but she is still holding on to what ever she got her teeth on. Once, we get her off we will go inside, ignore her until she calms down then we will walk out again without looking or acknowledging her. This has been so overwhelming for me since I can not leave my 13 and 8 year old boys out alone with her. We are continuing to work with her and hope to see some improvement.
