Our 4-Month-Old Australian Shepherd Puppy Won't Stop Piddling!

by Adaire
(Utah)

We don't know what to do or what NOT to do about Murphy's constant piddling. He has both submissive piddles and when he's excited.

We are so frustrated. HELP!

Work on calm behaviour
by: Dillon

The best solution I can think of is to work on calm behaviour. You mentioned he piddles when excited? What sets off his excitement? Is it when you have guests over or when you get home? If that’s the case, whoever enters your home should ignore him when they come in. Don’t make a big deal about greeting him. When you get home, simply take him outside to do his business. Once he’s done you can give him pets and cuddles. Tell your guests to ignore him for a while too. Doing this over and over should reduce his excitement. Working on calm behaviour will equally help with submissive piddling. Whatever you do don’t be overly stern when he piddles in submission because that can make things worse. Just take him out IMMEDIATELY to the place you want him to go every time he does it. And when he goes where he is supposed to, give him a tasty treat! Hope this helps.
