Reactive Australian Shepherd

by Jenny D
(Poca, WV)

We have a 7 month Aussie. We have tried to socialize her from day one. Taking her places, puppy classes, etc. Most of the time she is great but recently when we have had her out she’s been barking at people.

10 people could walk by and she is fine then the 11th comes by and she goes nuts. There is no pattern or trigger that we have been able to identify.

Any thoughts or tips?

Having the exact same problem with ours. He's about the same age. Did you manage to resolve it? If so, how??

Our Aussie is now 2. We have continued to work with her and she is better but still is reactive at times. The best advice I have gotten is to advocate for her. She needs her space and it’s our job to ensure she gets it. We still walk her but we avoid things we know she will react to. Cross the street, turn in the opposite direction. We don’t let strangers pet her. It’s okay to say no.
