Timid Australian Shepherd

by Michaelan Barngrover

I've had my Aussie Finn for about a week now and he's almost 14 weeks and he's still so timid. He deals with being pet but you can tell he doesn't really like it unless it's me.

I'm a first time Australian Shepherd owner but I feel like a puppy at this age is crazy and wants to play all the time and that's just not him. I wanted to know if he's just a very laid back dog or if this was the breed and if there was something I could do to help it. Thanks

I would recommend taking your pup to a vet you trust and having a complete exam, including blood work, just to be sure the pup is healthy.

Socialize

My first aussie was the same way. Afraid of everyone but me. He wasn't socialized properly before I got him and with him being in his fearful stage, a new owner and surroundings he was incredibly timid.
I would get him into a puppy kindergarten right away to get him socialized.
