Toy Aussie Behavior Problems

I have a 1.5 year old Toy Aussie who is wonderful, but only to me and my family. He constantly barks at anyone who comes to the house, bites them and absolutely does not like children. How can I stop this behavior?

Toy Aussie behaviors

Did you socialize him when he was little?
Did you meet his parents and did they display the barking/biting behavior?
Have you taken him to a Basic obedience class?
Some of the behaviors you describe can be taken care of with you and your dog going to a basic obedience class.

It is important to socialize a dog from a young age. This helps prevent fear and aggression. Regular walks and interaction with other people and dogs is quite helpful. I am sure you can work with your dog by taking him to a trainer, and getting him comfortable around other people. Since the age of 9 weeks, I would take my Aussie everywhere she was allowed - petshops, friends houses, etc. It is a continual process. Sometimes dogs become aggressive when they aren't familiar with anyone else other than their family or anywhere else other than their property. That is when a strong guarding instinct may develop. Good luck! I am sure you will be able to train your dog to be comfortable socially with the right help.
