Trying to Determine What Colour My Australian Shepherd Puppy Is

Hi there. I recently adopted a puppy who was being fostered. I understand that she is a red merle Australian Shepherd. This is my first Aussie dog and I'm wondering if that's what she is.

She doesn't look like the colours I see online - her coat seems to be getting lighter with black ticking and quite long on the back. I've attached a couple pictures over the last month.

She's a great puppy and we're really happy with her and she's bonded to us. It doesn't really matter what colour she is (we think she's very pretty) but I am curious.

Google Sable Blue Merle. If your pup was a red merle or red tri she would have a brown nose. Since she has a black nose she can’t be red factored. She is a beauty!

Your beautiful pup appears to be sable. Because for the black tips to its hair and black nose. A yellow typically has a liver-colored nose and no black in the hair.

Thanks tons for your help! I'm looking online and the pictures of sables seem to be much closer!
