What Color Is My Australian Shepherd?

by Jennifer
(Tomball, TX)

My 3-month-old male Australian Shepherd looks like he has blue merle in him. He has one blue eye and one brown. One side of his face is white with patches of grey and black and has black and white on his body, but it looks like the black is turning red?!

Red Merle Aussie

Your dog was never originally black it seems, to me it looks like a red merle Aussie with minimal merle.

I agree merle with heavy merling, and pattern white possibly - it could be his base is so light it can't be told from white yet, and much of the 'white' will color in. But look at his nose - looks black. So blue not red merle. I have heard of black pups who go through a weird rusty discoloration period before their proper adult coat comes in. See ASHGI.orgfor info on some weird Aussie colors.
