We had all three done before the fifth month.

Wait until the dog is fully matured, at least 12 to 14 months old.

You should wait until your pup has his full growth at over a year. There are lots of recent studies showing that a plethora of serious health problems can be caused by early spay/neuter. That includes cancer. You can do a search on Golden Retriever studies.

Hi DJ,
I work for a wonderful Veterinarian here in Florida. We try to have our clients Neuter or Spay between the ages of 4-5 months. This makes for a wonderful dog.
The old MYTH of letting them be mature of 1 year or a first heat is STRICTLY a MYTH.
I had both my male Aussies neutered at 4 1/2 months old. My one is 5 years old now, and the other 11 months.
Good luck, and do the right thing. Neuter, Neuter, Neuter!!

Jackiey
