Which Gender of Australian Shepherd Is More Loyal and Cuddly?

by Morgan
(Minnesota)

I want more than one Aussie eventually, but I've heard that the males tend to be more affectionate and the females more independent. I just want to know which gender goes best with what I am looking for. I'd be fine with one of each or both the same gender. I just haven't owned an Australian Shepherd yet.

Thank you!

Loyal and cuddly gender
by: Rebecca

We have had three different Aussies, all females. All were loyal. One was more cuddly than the other two. I think it depends on the individual Aussie rather than the gender.

Independent female
by: Ron

My male and female are nearly the same age, both tri black. The male is definitely more affectionate and my wife says he is "co-dependent," very docile and lazy. The female is also affectionate, but not as "needy" and is more independent and active. However, the male is the alpha and can assert himself when he wants to. They are equally loyal, I would say.
