Why Does My Australian Shepherd Only Get Matted Behind His Ears?

No matter how much and how often I brush my Aussie, Blue, his fur still gets matted behind his ears. Why is that, and how can I prevent it?

Rolled collar

I have found that a rolled collar (rather than flat) helps reduce matting around the neck and ears. They are a little more expensive but do the job. Good luck!
