Why Is My Miniature Australian Shepherd Panting at Night?

by Petra
(Oregon)

I have a 5-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd. She was always a big panter during the day but about a month ago she has nights were she just randomly starts panting.

I went to the vet with her and they did a check-up and found nothing wrong with her. We also did a blood panel and everything looked normal. She is overweight and should be losing about 10 lbs, which I know is a lot, but we are working on it.

I just wondered if anybody's Aussie is doing this at night or if anybody has any thoughts what it could be?

She is a very happy dog. She eats and drinks normal, runs, plays, and seems otherwise totally normal beside the nighttime panting.

Mysterious panting

Where does she normally sleep? Spring is coming, is she just feeling too warm, still in winter coat? Has anything changed in the house? Any new "smart" products in the house? They can emit electrical waves that bother dogs but we can’t hear. She is quite heavy for her age, maybe just having trouble catching her breath while lying down? Hopefully a bit of research can help you find the problem.
