Is My Dog Full Australian Shepherd Or A Mix?

by Kayla Martin
(Springfield, MO)

We got our dog from non-AKC registered Aussie parents. The person said the parents were full-blooded but we have doubts that what they told us was correct.

We only paid $200 for our dog because we were wanting an Aussie but were okay if it was a mix. The owners assured us that our dog wasn’t a mix.

Now that we have him we don’t think he’s full Aussie due to his face being almost completely white except for a brown patch over one eye. He is mostly black, grey, and white with only a couple of brown spots.

Help us determine if he’s mixed, please.

Mine are both full-blooded Aussie. My male, Chase, has a mostly white face also. The markings can vary.

He just wasn’t as fluffy as a lot of the puppies I’ve seen either.

Your dog is a blue merle Aussie from the looks. They can have little to no white in them or a bunch on the head, chest, and feet. I've seen some that have no white and mine has a lot actually. Check this link out.
