This is Sydney at 11 months old - she LOVES to run in the woods and chase the squirrels. Her second favorite thing is to chase a ball around the park and bring it back to our feet for another go. People are always commenting on how happy she seems as she romps around rain or shine (in this case snow). When Sydney calms down she enjoys her new job as a therapy dog at our local long term care facility. She wiggles her bottom happily (given she only has a wee bob tail) to everyone's delight!

These two boys are Augie the Australian Shepherd and Ferdinand, a Lab/Border Collie mix. Both were rescues from Madison Mutts (Madison, Wisconsin), which is now defunct. We first rescued Augie in November, 2009, about three years old at the time. He was a very traumatized dog, badly matted and dirty. When we saw his imploring eyes couched in brown fur from that cold cage at the rescue there was no question he'd be going home with us. A bath that night a trip to a friend of ours that's a dog groomer the next day and a handsome boy emerged. It's took months for him to begin to trust, jumping at every new sound, cowering at nearly every new movement, not understanding toys or fun or play. Ferdinand came home with us from Madison Mutts a couple months later. A four-month-old ball of fire, we brought him home to play with Augie and try to bring him out of his shell. It worked. Within a few days the two were playing together, Augie quickly taking the role of mentor for the pup while the pup, constantly in motion, showed Augie how much fun it could be to play and that neither would get in trouble for their effort. They now love their trips to the country for an hour or so of Frisbee catching. Ferdinand, true to his Labrador roots, would prefer they all went into the water so he could swim after them. Augie, not so much...

This is a photo of my new blue merle Aussie pup Zuri at 12 weeks old. Here she is playing in the back yard with her two canine sisters; a 10 year old German Shep and a 1 year old red merle Aussie. Everyone was running and jumping and chasing and Zuri stopped and sat behind these flimsy grasses. I am convinced she was hiding from her sisters!!

Things are starting to get colder and I just don't want to admit winter is on the way. So here is a photo of Aurora who lives near Lake Michigan, and she enjoys many days of exercising on the beach! Ahhh... the beach.
