This photo of my 7 month old Australian Shepherd, Shelby, was taken in Livigno, Italy when we went there to spend a week skiing. In the morning we would go out for long walks in the mountains and Shelby would carry his own gear. We'll go back to the high mountains in the spring so he can enjoy even more long walks there.

This is our very handsome (of course we're biased) 1 ½ year old blue merle Aussie, Jasper. He lives with his humans in the Phoenix area and posed for this shot in the Desert Botanical Garden during Dog Day. He was checking out all the other dogs during this shot. Frankly he'd much rather be running, jumping and generally playing, but the humans take him to these more mundane places from time to time.

Athos is a pure-breed Aussie Shepherd, hence his full name Athos des Chemins Cathares. He's an absolutely delightful dog, who has had bad luck with his owners. Including the breeder, we're his sixth owners!! As a result of separations, marriages, and relocations, all his previous owners at some point had to find a new home for Athos.

The photo was taken after my afternoon walk with Athos, coming down the road from Puilaurens Castle in the south of France. Athos and I often wander off the road into the woods, where we play in streams and generally have a lovely time. Sometimes, Athos picks up the scent of a wild boar or deer and goes running off after them. He never barks at them—I think he just wants to join their gang and play for a while! On these occasions, I end up walking home with an empty dog lead, and Athos comes back when he's ready!

This is Jack, aged 6. His favorite thing is going for a hike which we do most every day. He's come nose to nose with many rabbits during our hikes. Bats them down with his front paw, sniffs them and then lets them go. I guess he's still trying to decide what they are. His favorite toy is his tennis ball. Happy and carefree. He lives with an older Aussie who is now aged 13. He takes good care of the older one often bringing him chew sticks and toys to play with. He makes life fun.

This is our 1 ½ year old Ginger. We live in New England and love to take hikes in the hills. Ginger is very loving and a very happy dog. In the dark mornings we both leave the house before work and jog 4 miles and on the weekends she is always in the car with the family. Ginger is much more than our dog but a friend always ready to please.
